Although silent, archives do speak volumes!
Celebrating his 30th year working in the archives, Malta’s National Archivist visited over sixty archives in Malta and Gozo and chose a selection of records from these repositories; it was a long process of engagement with the sources, their guardians and their users.
This personal narrative highlights sources, connections and different archival typologies and media while shedding light on a number of previously unknown archival treasures. Archives custody the dreams of many. They preserve for posterity ideas and thoughts that often remain on paper. This book holds the author’s choice of items from over 60 Maltese archival repositories, the scope is not for the reader to stop and ponder on the items themselves. Each record is a fragment from a chain of evidence. Its relevance transcends the walls of the archive in which it is in custody.
