Calpe Associates is the ultimate Parent Company of The Miller Group. Owned by the Miller family it is the investment arm of most existing operations and property within the Group.
Set up with the scope of offering International Publishers the opportunity to print their titles, even in very small runs remotely, this is a wholly owned subsidiary of The Miller Group.
Using the latest digital printing technology, the Malta operation is the first fully-fledged newspaper digital printing operation in Europe and the first global installation for Kodak, the supplier of the printing system.
Miller Newsprint is proud to have a large customer base of major International titles now printed in Malta, enabling residents and tourists from all over the world to get their favourite newspaper very early in the morning on the day of publication.
With the ability to print in full colour and using recycled newsprint, reduce transport and waste, there are large environmental advantages in using this latest technology. The ability to print newspapers in a clean and quiet environment in contrast to the traditional noisy machinery normally associated with printing is a quantum leap in technology and its many applications.
Over the years, we have increased our property portfolio to include investments in residential property and wherever possible the buildings we operate from. Given the stability of the Maltese economy,we continue to view increased investment in our property holdings directly or through our holding company as an area of growth.
This Joint Venture with the Bermont Group, Spain’s largest printing group, and Iberpress, the major International and Spanish distributor, started operations in Tenerife in August 2011. With year-round Tourism, a large demand for International and mainland Press, this is an important development for our business and international growth and opens up further opportunities in Spain.
This JVC is a partnership with RJC Caterers Ltd, a leading operator of Cafes and Cafeterias in Malta. Operating Food & Beverage together with retail services in high traffic areas in the Maltese islands, the aim is to mix Cafes with an enjoyable retail experience. Bringing together leading practices and years of operations in high profile localities such as the University of Malta, the State Sixth Form campus, Malta International Airport and other prestigious locations, there is scope for expansion in line with the development and exciting future of the Maltese economy.
QCRSL started operations with its first major contract, the Malta Government tender to operate the Cafés, Staff Restaurants, Vending machines and all retail services on Mater Dei’s grounds.
Publishers of The Malta Independent, Malta’s fast-growing daily newspaper, its well-established sister title The Malta Independent on Sunday and Malta’s leading business newspaper The Malta Business Weekly, together with a host of leading magazines.
The recently re-launched Malta Independent portal has been a great success and (according to Alexa site audited ratings), is the second most visited news website in Malta and ranks third of all Malta websites.
Milkro Digital Cyprus Ltd is a joint venture between Miller Malta and Kronos Press Distribution Agency PLC– the leading International Newspaper and Magazine distribution company in Cyprus. The increasing costs of airfreight due to fuel surcharges, insurance levies and the frustrations of costly late arrivals of aircraft make Cyprus an ideal location for remote printing of the International Press.
Using the latest Kodak and Hunkeler technology which enables even very short run printing, all International newspaper titles are now able to reach their readers at dawn on the day of publication. Following on from the success of the Malta digital site, the business went live in February 2011.
