On the 4th of September 2017, the ‘Aqra fis-Sajf’ Summer Reading Campaign came to a close, and a final reading celebration for young students took place at Bisazza Street, Sliema.

The National Literacy Agency, together with Agenda Bookshop, organised this event in order to encourage children to read books from a young age. This activity formed part of the UNESCO International Literacy Day celebrations, which will be celebrated internationally on Friday, 8th September 2017. The theme for this year is ‘Literacy in a Digital world’. Activities such as; story-telling done by the x3 Reading Ambassadors, face painting, animation and stilt walking took place for these children.

The Minister for Education and Employment Hon. Minister Evarist Bartolo was present for this event, whilst three well-established Maltese public figures: Corazon Mizzi, Keith Demicoli and Saviour Darmanin, were the three reading ambassadors.

Over 60 children from schools around Malta were present for this event, and Agenda Bookshop, as the main sponsor of this event, sponsored each student with a free goodie bag and a book, in order to inspire children to fall in love with reading.
