Magic was in the air on the evening of Friday 15 th July when the much-awaited book – Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, was launched at the brand new Agenda Bookshop flagship outlet at the Valletta Waterfront. Harry Potter fans from all over the Islands turned up in the hundreds from 21.30hrs to enjoy the themed entertainment and the build-up to 01.00am when the actual book went on sale. The book had a worldwide embargo release time set at midnight GMT, being the magical hour, when still flocks of people remained to pick up their much-awaited copy. Visitors enjoyed a night full of fun and thrilling acts that featured Harry Potter and other popular characters such as Professor Dumbledore and Professor Snape who performed illusions throughout the evening. Other highlights during the night included spellbinding story telling, picture games, face painting, stilt walkers, ventriloquists, live owls and more.

Simon Debono, Marketing Manager of Agenda Bookshops commented, “The turnout was huge and the event was a big success. We never thought we would have had such an amount of people during the evening. All the entertainment stalls were packed with grownups and children alike. At the time of the unveiling of the book, the bookshop was packed and we actually had some difficulty in coping with the demand. In the UK there were people queuing for 6 hours before the release time and then had to wait many hours after that to pay! We’d like to thank all the people who came to the event and for their patience – I am sure that at the end of it all, it was well worth the wait. To avoid waiting in the queues, many customers actually got their copy of the book and found a comfortable corner in the bookshop to start devouring the pages – the real fans could obviously not wait to start the new adventure of the young wizard.“ “I am not going to sleep tonight”, exclaimed Sarah Caruana Galizia, the first proud owner of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, “I cannot wait to get home and start the book!”

On Saturday morning large flocks of fans were also queuing behind the doors of all other Agenda Bookshops to buy their copy. Harry has performed his magic one more time.
