During the draws, Mr Robert Ebejer, ASA President, thanked Mr Simon Debono Marketing Manager – Miller Distributors, local agents and distributors of Wilkinson Sword, for their support in the promotion of Water Polo in Malta. “With the financial support we receive from our sponsors we can plan ahead. We have embarked on an ambitious long term programme which should continue to improve our sport,” said Mr Ebejer.
“Following the introduction of the new water polo rules, we have started an educational programme for referees, coaches and the general public. By October 2006, all coaches will have to attend a Coaches Foundation Course which will be run by the University of Malta in collaboration with Kunsill Malti ghall-Isport (KMS). This will be followed by a technical course to be conducted by an Italian Instructor leading up to the issue of Water Polo Coaches Certificate. This year, we will also be reintroducing the Water Polo School in collaboration with KMS and preparing a Youth and Junior National Water Polo Team, while the Senior National Team is looking forward for the tough challenge of participating in the Qualifying round of the European Championships.”
Mr Debono said: “We are continuing to build a strong relationship with ASA who have shown their full commitment towards taking the sport forward. This competition will not only serve as a preparation programme of the local teams but it will also serve the National Team as a match practice for the European Championships.”
As the official sponsor of the ASA, Wilkinson Sword is sponsoring all national water polo competitions for the next three years. Wilkinson Sword, established in 1772, has maintained its reputation for developing innovative products ever since, including the 2003 launch of the Quattro, the world’s first four-blade razor which houses the most durable blades in the world.
